Preserve your tile roof’s appearance while solving the problem
Appearance matters, but a roof decision should start with condition and compatible materials. You can ask to retain the existing look without assuming every tile can be reused.
Describe what you want to preserve
Take safe ground-level photos of the roof color, profile and areas most visible from the street. Note whether your priority is a close match, retaining existing tiles, or considering a new look. A spare tile or previous invoice can help identify the original product.
Separate color from compatibility
Matching a photograph is not enough to establish a compatible repair tile. Ask the contractor to identify the material, profile and proposed installation. Weathered tiles may look different from available replacement stock. Discuss that difference before ordering, using a sample when available.
Ask for options that fit the condition
A localized repair, tile reuse during underlayment work and a new tile covering solve different problems. Ask what findings support each viable option. Cleaning or changing appearance should not be described as renewing concealed waterproofing. The roofer should explain what the proposed work actually fixes.
Keep the agreed selection
Record the selected product and appearance, any relevant review requirements and the process for approving substitutions. A material shortage may require another decision. Do not assume an alternate product is acceptable merely because its color is similar.
